Magnetic Island to Townsville Swim Secures Local Support.
The 2008 Magnetic Island to Townsville Swim has been given a boost with the Port of Townsville joining the ranks as the principle sponsor for this year’s solo event.
The Port of Townsville has been a long term sponsor of the event and is thrilled to be involved again this year.
The 8.5 kilometre swim takes place on Saturday 12 July 2008 and open to solo, duo and team swimmers.
Competitors will be part of history by taking part in the inaugural cage-less swim from the Island to the mainland.
Locally owned and operated Austax Townsville is the sponsor for today’s Magnetic Island Relay Swim and Strand Swim. Austax have also been a long-term sponsor of the event.
Surf fashion and accessory store, Salt 66 have also generously donated $4,500 of Ripcurl surf accessories of in-kind support for prizes for the participants.
Local businesses, Dallecort Financial Services, Sports Co, Twin City Pools and Spas and Coral Coast Produce Logistics will also provided additional financial and prize support for the event.
The Magnetic Island to Townsville Swim has been recognised Queensland’s and Northern Australia’s premier long distance open water swimming race.
The cage-less event has attracted greater numbers of registrations from swimmers from across Australia than previously.
Ex-World Champion triathlete Miles Stewart and Australian swimming champion Neil McDonald are part of the elite line up for this year’s solo swim.
Local open water swimmer Brad Skinner will also be competing in the solo swim in preparation for the English Channel swim due later in 2008
