2008 marks a major turning point in this, Queensland’s and northern Australia’s premier long distance open water swimming race.

Competitors will be part of history by taking part in the inaugural cageless swim from the island to the mainland.

The 8.5 klm event takes place on Saturday, 12^th July, 2008, and is open to solo, duo and team swimmers.

Townsville is an ideal place to visit during Australia’s winter. The water is pleasant, the weather is fabulous and natural attractions abound.

Take a few extra days after the swim and visit the Great Barrier Reef, a 2 hour boat ride away. Or visit tropical islands (including Magnetic), world heritage rainforest, or authentic gold mining towns, all within a days drive. There are direct (and cheap) flights to Townsville from all east coast capital cities.
